It’s a Craft, not Simply a Job!
The question on the mind of every business owner when approaching a Graphic Designer is “what am I paying for?” If you’re thinking this you are certainly not alone. A lot of what a Graphic Designer does (or is supposed to do) is shrouded in a cloud of ambiguity and is sometimes difficult to understand why design costs as much as it does.
Doesn’t a Graphic Designer just make things pretty?
Yes, we do, but there is a lot more to crafting the perfect logo, label, or some other form of design. A good designer will consider several factors to create your design such as the brand story and ethos and the target market of the product or service. A higher-end designer will have spent years learning and experimenting to be able to incorporate all the different elements of your brand, market and product into a complete market-ready design. The Designers at Canna Boss Designs are no different. We’ve built and created, we’ve become confident, creative and experienced with a wide range of tools whilst continuing to learn new skills. We understand how important it is to get the design just right, and we work really hard to make sure your completed design will let your company put its best foot forward in such a highly competitive industry.
Unlike hiring a labourer, you are not just paying for the Designer’s time. You are paying for their creativity, their experience, their technical skills, their knowledge of their tools and their ability to tell your story through imagery. The more experience and technical skills a Designer has, the more they will charge. This is because these Designers will be in high demand. The supply and demand principle will come into play for these Designers. For instance, Anni, our lead designer, has over 20 years of design experience and has been designing almost exclusively for the CBD and Hemp for around 4 years. She not only has the skills above, but she also has a vast understanding of compliance for CBD and Hemp products. When she is on the case, not only will your designs be beautiful and print-ready, they will also be compliant to the current UK legislation for CBD and Hemp. She also checks labels created by our Jr. Designers to ensure every label we create is up to standard when it comes to compliance.
You’re probably not in the habit of slapping something together in a rush, and we’re not either. We’re a single-malt rather than a blended whiskey kinda company. It’s not as straightforward as many would think. Alas, we can’t just sit at a computer and utilise some all-powerful, all-encompassing digital trickery to form something with but a few clicks on a mouse. That tool doesn’t exist. Software, though one of the tools in our bag, is but one of many. And just like any other craftsman, we’ve had to take the time to master them.
Design…, works. It has a function. It’s not art. Art can’t really ‘do’ anything other than inspire, whereas design can motivate. We layer features into your design. Every pixel, the choice of font, the composition, different colour palettes, every single characteristic accentuates and improves upon the other. Every feature ‘does’ something. They draw the eye, they inform, they ensure that your product is seen and it motivates an audience to engage with it or you. Guess what? Crafting that design not only takes time, but also requires experience and talent.
Not only do we have to put your design together, but we’ve also got to plan and discuss. We’ve to dig down into what you like and what you dream of and what your competition is putting out to the market. We’ve got to bring our knowledge, experience and talent to the table and craft something that is ‘on-brand’, that which is unique to you and you alone. We draft, we graft, we hone your design and ensure it functions properly to the eye and across platforms. We build you something completely custom, and that is really what you are paying for; a design that tells your story to your ideal clientele and makes them want to buy from you instead of one of your competitors. As Joel Spokey says “design adds value faster than it adds cost”.
